It was reported on the 5^th that scholarships were presented to the children of multicultural families at the “One Love Multicultural Unity Ceremony” on the 3^rd, which was hosted by the Daejeon branch of the Korean Multicultural Peace Federation. The Daejeon branch of the Korean Multicultural Peace Federation held the “One Love Multicultural Unity Ceremony” in the Main Hall of Daejeon City Hall on the 3^rd, under the theme of “World Citizens in Korea! Korean Citizens in the World!” About 1,000 people, including multicultural couples and their children, the Korean Multicultural Peace Federation President, Kyeung-Seuk Ryu, the Under-Secretary of Daejeon City, Hyeon-Joo Lee and the Superintendent of Education of Daejeon, Dong-Ho Seol, participated.

At the event, FFWPU-Korea President Kyeung-Seuk Ryu said, “Korea has become a multicultural country, and multicultural policies must focus on the education of children,” and further emphasized, “We must guide the children from multicultural families so that they can have pride of their family backgrounds, learn a second language and accumulate knowledge of their mother’s country, as well, making them globally talented individuals of the future.”

Prior to the the beginning of the ceremony, a traditional samulnori performance by multicultural families, as well as traditional dances and songs featuring the native countries of wives that accepted the hands of a Korean husband were also shown, and received enthusiastic applause.

Then, during the main ceremony, a final three-minute Korean-language speech contest took place, featuring wives and children from Japan and Mongolia that had already passed through the preliminaries and semifinals, presenting their stories about getting married and living in Korea.

The audience especially clapped and cheered when these children from multicultural families promised they would bravely and passionately live their lives and develop into patriots and leaders of Korea.
