“Hope for Gloomy Reality through Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel”

Family Federation, 30th Anniversary Ceremony of Construction of Ilseo/ 200 Participants from Both Countries/ Dr. Hak Ja Han: “Must do our best for humankind”

The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Family Federation) held the 30th Anniversary Ceremony for the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel Construction in Karatsu, Japan, on the morning of the 14th. The Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project was revealed by the “International Highway and Korea-Japan Tunnel Concept” of Reverend Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han on November 10, 1981, at the 10th International Conference on the Unity of Sciences (ICUS) in Seoul, and held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 10th of November.

Through her congratulatory message, Dr. Hak Ja Han, who visited the site on the 14th herself, said, “Providentially, Korea and Japan must take its responsibility as the parent countries for humankind,” and further emphasized, “Through this Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel, we must change this gloomy reality that exists in every place of the world to abundant hope.” At the event on this day, 200 guests from Korea and Japan participated, including the International President of the Family Federation, Sun-Jin Moon, the International Vice-President of the Family Federation, In-Sup Park, the International President of the Women’s Federation for World Peace, Yeon-Ah Moon, the Head Chief of the National Blessed Families Federation of Japan, Yong-Cheon Song, International Highway Foundation President Eiji Tokuno, the Chairman of Board of the International Highway Foundation, Masuo Owe, the Korean President of the Family Federation, Kyeung-Seuk Ryu, and the Chairman of Board of the Tongil Group, Yun-Gi Choi.

On the 10th of November, in 1981, Reverend Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han said, “A great highway of peace for the Asian area that reaches from China to Japan and that passes through Korea is to be constructed, along with a free highway of peace that connects the world,” and added, “A tunnel or railroad bridge that crosses the Korean peninsula from mainland China and then connects to the Japanese Islands can be created, thus forming an International Peace Highway that guarantees free passage. If this were to be built, these three Asian countries could be unified and connected by a peace highway.”

The President of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, Dr. Hak Ja Han (7th from the left), the International President of the Family Federation, Sun-Jin Moon (6th from the left), and the International Vice-President of the Family Federation, In-Sup Park (5th from the left), are taking a commemorative photo 600 meters underground at the site of the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel during the “30th Anniversary of the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel Construction” event that took place in Karatsu, Japan, on the 14th. At the event, 200 people, including the International President of the Women’s Federation for World Peace, Yeon-Ah Moon, the Head Chief of the National Blessed Families Federation of Japan, Yong-Cheon Song, International Highway Foundation President Eiji Tokuno, the Chairman of Board of the International Highway Foundation, Masuo Owe, the Korean President of the Family Federation, Kyeung-Seuk Ryu, and the Chairman of Board of the Tongil Group, Yun-Gi Choi, participated.

The Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel in Karatsu, Japan, has currently reached 547 meters under the ocean floor, as subterranean investigations continue. In Korea, the “Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel Research Society” was established in 1986, and from 1988 to 1990, for two years, drilling investigations in five areas of Daemado and Geojedo Island were initiated. Through this, the entire blueprint of Iki Island, Daemado, Geojedo Island and Busan was completed, and detailed measurements for the construction at the inclined shaft at the entrance of Are on the West Coast took place in May, 2014. The excavation work for the inclined shaft proceeded at a grade of one quarter (an angle where one meter is dug for every four meters of progress), with a diameter of six meters, and dug for 1,300 meters. From the bottom of the inclined shaft, 1,700 meters of drift digging is to take place.

One common opinion of the technical teams from both countries is that there have been almost no technological problems in the process of construction. Considering the fact that the undersea section of the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel reaches 150 kilometers and that the deepest depth reaches 220 meters, experts view that the undersea tunnel can be constructed with the excavation method that has been used up to date. Regarding the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel, the Japanese government is taking a positive line..... [See the original story]
