Peace Road 2017 ‘Korea Big Run to Unification’ Closing at Imjingak

From Busan and Mokpo to Paju Imjingak for 8 days, 1,000km
Youths from 125 countries hoping for the reunification of the Korean peninsula sprinting at the DMZ
[Cheonji Times= Jun-Song Park reporter] Global youths from 125 countries participated in the ‘Peace Road 2017, Korea Big Run to Unification’ hoping for the reunification of the Korean Peninsula and world peace comes to an end at Imjingak.
This event cycling through Seoul, Busan, Mokpo, etc., in the hope for peace on the Korean Peninsula was organized by the Peace Road 2017 Organizing Committee, and was hosted by the Unification Korea Federation, Ambassador for Peace Council and the UPF(Universal Peace Federation), and was also sponsored by the Ministry of Unification, as well as 13 metropolitan cities.
34 people from Mokpo on August 13 and Pusan on August 14 arrived in Imjingak while cycling in the heat wave and the heavy rain through Yeonghonam, Chungcheong, Gyeonggi and Seoul. 10 Japanese people who biked the 12,000km race of the Japanese archipelago also participated in the Big Run to the Unification event.
After the completion ceremony held at the Peace Bell at Imjingak on the morning of the 21st, a welcoming ceremony of the Korea-Japan Alliance Territory Team was held followed by a welcoming speech by Standing Advisor Yong-Soo Seol (National Union), a congratulatory speech by Honorary Chairman of the Korea Foreign Relations Association Tae-Ik Jeong (former Ambassador to Russia), a written speech by Minister of Unification Myung-Gyun Cho, an opening address by Peace Road Korean Executive Committee Chairman Kwang-Seuk Song, and afterwards, the declaration of the Peace Message by the representative of the cyclist the ceremony was concluded by the chiming of the Peace Bell.
Honorary Chairman of the Korea Foreign Relations Association Tae-Ik Jeong gave his encouragement in his congratulatory speech saying, “Just like the saying Dreaming alone is just a dream, but dreaming together can become a reality, dreaming together for reunification (North and South) must be accomplished.”
Minister of Unification Myung-Gyun Cho said in his written speech, “North Korea's provocations and threats are making peace in the Korean peninsula difficult,” and continued, “However, if all citizens of the world from 125 countries share the enthusiasm and commitment to peace on the Korean peninsula, we can overcome difficult situations,” he congratulated.
The Korean Executive Committee Chairman Kwang-Seuk Song said in his opening speech, “Through international cooperation and support, Peace Road will not only bring peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula, but also go from Mt. Baekdu down to the Yalu River.”
Starting from Busan and Mokpo, 34 participants biked 1,000 km for 8 days to Imjingak in Paju added special meaning to the donation of 1.5 million won to the unification scholarship for the children of the refugees from North Korea.

The Peace Road Project was based on the “International Peace Highway” project officially proposed by Dr. Sun Myung Moon at the 10th International Science Reunion Conference in Seoul in 1981. This contains a meaning that by linking the whole world by a single path this will solve global disputes and conflicts and bond humanity as one family and open the age of global peace.
An official of Peace Road 2017 Organizing Committee said, “Peace Road 2017 Global Peace Project with 50 million participants from 125 countries will proactively inform the peace project that the unification of the Korean peninsula, the world's only divided nation, is the cornerstone for world peace, and will also attract support and cooperation from the international community.”.....
