Memorial Ceremony of Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, who has loved peace
Unification Church’s Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s 1st Memorial Ceremony To be held at Cheong Pyung Peace World Center The memorial ceremony for the Seonghwa (passing) of the founder of the Family Federation For World Peace (Unification Church, FFWP) Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon will be held on August 23 (July 17thon the lunar calendar) at 10:00 a.m. at the Cheong Shim Peace World Center in Kapyeong-gun, with more than 20 thousand anticipated guests. The official title of the event is ‘Memorial Ceremony for the First Anniversary of the Universal Seonghwa of Sun Myung Moon, the True Parent of Heaven, Earth and Humankind’ and is to be held from August 17~23. Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon was born in Cheongjyoo, Pyeonganbuk-do on January 6, 1920 and passed away at 1: 54 a.m. on September 3, 2012 at Cheong Pyung International Medical Center in Kapyeong, Gyeonggi-do. Rev. Moon’s Seonghwa Ceremony (funeral service) was held on the 13th day. For 13 days, more than 250 guests from all over the world attended to honor his memory. Since the FFWP plans major events based on the lunar calendar, FFWP will be commemorating Rev. Dr. Sun Myeong Moon’s Seongwha every year on June 17th on the lunar calendar. The FFWP calls funerals ‘Seonghwa Ceremonies.’ They see that death is not the end of life but a moment to be reborn in a new world; and therefore does not treat death with sorrow, but rather a celebration of a birth into a new world and a farewell to the deceased. That is why the ceremony’s venue is decorated with white ribbon and colorful flowers instead of black ribbon and single colored condolence flowers. Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon founded the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of Christianity in 1954 and nurtured the organization into a global religious organization with 194 mission countries all over the world. He spent a lifetime dedicated to world peace, harmony between religions and the salvation of mankind.
