[Segye Times] “The story of the experiences of the seniors from multi-cultured families had been a great help”

 

“Not to mention the advices on studies, but the stories of experiences of the seniors who knows and experienced the hardships in school life has been a great help”

Dong Won Jung (age 17), a second grade high school student from Kangrung High School who participated in the camp at Sun Moon University hosted by the Won Mo Pyeong Aeah Foundation for the youth of multi-cultured families says “Thanks to the mentoring teachers who overcame hardships in similar environments, I learnt a way to head for my dreams.” The Won Mo Pyeong Aeah Foundation held a “Youth self-directed learning mentoring camp” from the 4th to 11th, and revealed it was a great success and welcomed by participants and parents.




 

 According to the foundation, after 120 days of preparation, mentors consisted of students from Korean Universities in the metropolitan area such as Seoul University, and students studying in the U.S. were chosen as mentor groups, and 49 mentees consisted of middle and high school students from all over the nation including Won Mo scholarship students were chosen.

The difference of this camp was that 18 mentors who consists the 90% of the total mentors are from multi-cultural families. The foundation’s analyzation and anticipation that advices from seniors who grew up successfully from a multi-cultural families will prevent the trials and errors of the juniors hit the mark.

Yoo Jin Lee (Age 20), a sophomore at Yonsei University who participated as a mentor from a multi-cultural family says, “Owing to the issues such as private education, 2nd generation from multi-cultural families has the tendency to be put under a shadow of the imbalance of education”, and added that “I believe that individual counseling by mentors who overcame difficulties had great educational effect.”


The students who acted as mentors will be mentoring the seniors they are in charge for a year on line, and the Won Mo Pyeong Aeah Foundation is planning to expand the ‘Mentor/ Mentee System’ to multi-cultural families nationwide.


The Won Mo Pyeong Aeah Foundation was founded by Governor President Hak Ja Han Moon of FFWPU last February with funding of 50 trillion won poured in from all over the world in the will to keep memory of Rev. Dr. Sun Myeong Moon, the founder and Governor President of FFWPU (Unification Church) and by adding the funds by selling the helicopter he used in his life time (on going).

Won Mo Pyeong Aeah Foundation will first concentrate on nurturing person of talent centering on scholarship and education business, and through planning commemorative business to enhancing the peace vision and ideals of Rev. Dr. Sun Myeong Moon and President Hak Ja Han Moon, it seeks to propel businesses such as awarding of the Sun Hak World Peace Award within the next three years. The foundation has supported more than 4 billion won to 750 Won Mo Scholarship students in Korea, Japan, U.S., Europe and Africa this year.
