[Cheonji News] Korean Family Federation President Lu Kyeng Seuk visits Philippines, delivers 200,000 dollars

Delivering 1 million dollars in relief funds from Dr. Hak Ja Han

“Church members not only from Korea, but from around the world are making special devotions and collecting donations for the Philippines. We pray that the people of the Philippines can quickly overcome their difficulties.”

This was the message from Lu Kyeng Seuk, President of the Korean Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Family Federation), who made a two day visit to the Philippines from November 27-28 to visit victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan and to deliver 200,000 dollars in relief funds donated by Korean church members.

Representing Family Federation President Hak Ja Han, Lu Kyeng Seuk, the first second generation member to hold the position of President of the Korean Family Federation, offered words of encouragement at the Cebu Family Church to Philippine church members, who have undergone great suffering as a result of Super Typhoon Haiyan.

In the city of Tacloban in the central region, there was one Seonghwa (death) in the Unification family, local church leader Rev. Gaudencio L. Estoce Jr (57), and in addition 100 members were left homeless.

After hearing reports about the situation in the Philippines on November 15, Dr. Hak Ja Han gave a direction that one million dollars should be sent to the Philippines, and the Korean Family Church designated November 17 as a “Day to Support Members in the Philippines” fasting in the morning, and kicking off a campaign to collect donations and relief supplies until December 10.

Volunteers continue to work to help those in the areas affected by the typhoon. A volunteer team made of up young people from the Philippine Family Federation is traveling throughout the afflicted areas supporting relief projects.

During his trip, church president Lu Kyeng Seuk delivered relief supplies purchased with the money donated by Dr. Han and by the Korean church members to the team of 100 Asian volunteers made up of Korean, Japanese and Philippine university students who have been working in Bogo city in the Cebu region.

The Philippines is an important mission country for the Family Federation. Missionaries were first sent to the Philippines, a Catholic country, in 1975, and the church grew quickly, and has remained active. Beginning last year, inter-religions peace activities of the Philippine church have included inter-religious marriage blessings, held in Manila, Bijaya, Mindanau and other areas, with a total of 45,000 couples participating. There are also over 5,000 Philippine church members who have participated in international marriage blessings now living in Korea, and another 7,000 living in Japan, making the Philippines the country with the second-largest number of people who have participated in international blessings, many of whom are now settled in Korea.[Read the original story]
