On the 28^th, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (hereafter referred to as the Family Federation) revealed that it was planning to hold various memorial events in commemoration of their founder, Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s, 2^nd Year Ascension Anniversary (July 17^th by the lunar calendar).

On August 12^th, Rev. Moon’s 2^nd Year Ascension Anniversary Memorial Ceremony will be held at the Cheong Shim Peace World Center in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. About 30,000 people, including former and current heads of state and VIPs, are expected to attend.

This event will celebrate Rev. Moon’s lifetime achievements for peace, focusing mainly on his work in North and South America.

The Family Federation has also created the “Sunhak Peace Prize,” which is based on the Nobel Peace Prize. The inauguration ceremony for the Sunhak Peace Prize will be held at the Seoul Press Center on August 11^th. Former President of Korea University Il-Shik Hong has been invited to serve as the chairperson of the Peace Prize. Individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions toward world peace will be selected and recognized at the first awards ceremony to be held in 2015.

The “6,000 Kilometer Peace Bicycle Tour for Unification” is now being carried out in 14 countries, including Korea and Japan. The tour carries with it the hope of unification on the Korean Peninsula, beginning with the fulfillment of Rev. Moon’s plan for the construction of a world peace park in the DMZ.

The cross-country cyclists from Japan and Korea will gather on August 4^th to hold a ceremony at the Imjingak Pavilion to promote peace in Northeast Asia and the unification of North and South Korea.

The “World Summit 2014” will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Seoul from August 9^th to the 13^th. Heads of 13 African nations will be attending alongside about 250 leaders from 70 nations. Jejomar C. Binay, Vice President of the Philippines, has been invited to speak together with Korean National Assembly Member Eul-Dong Kim for a joint lecture at the National Assembly Library Auditorium on August 11^th.

“We prepared these events commemorating Rev. Moon’s 2^nd Year Ascension Anniversary in the spirit of Rev. Moon’s words, which professed that peace in Northeast Asia and throughout the world would be impossible without first bringing about peace on the Korean Peninsula. I hope that these events can become an impetus that brings about reconciliation to the strained relationship between North and South Korea,” said Family Federation Korean President Kyeung-Seuk Ryu.
