‘America, as the elder son nation, must embrace their brethren around the world,’ Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, at the commemorative event for the 40th anniversary of the Yankee Stadium Rally in the United States

Last June 5, the "God Bless America Family Festival" was held at the Belvedere Estate in Tarrytown, NY, in the United States. It was an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Yankee Stadium Rally held in 1976, where 50,000 people had gathered to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States. At this commemorative event held by the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, 3,000 people attended from around the world, including Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, former U.S. Representative Dan Burton, North American FFWPU President Ki-Hoon Kim and Washington Times Foundation President Tom McDevitt. Simultaneous translation for English and Korean was provided at the event. Belvedere is the venue where Dr. Moon met with world leaders to discuss the importance of peace and the right path for America. The venue was opened to the public for the first time.

In her keynote address on this day, Dr. Moon said, "When America was losing its original essence, we campaigned to awaken America once more. Devoting our bodies and souls, we had many educational discussions with the American youth and leaders. Long-time members who volunteered their services during that time have gathered here." She also revealed, "There are about 200 nations in the world, but America stands as the eldest son. The eldest son should embrace his brethren around the whole world. However, America does not think like this. Instead, they only care about their own well-being. A lot of issues need to be addressed, and I will surely solve them." She was emphasizing FFWPU's role of ridding America, rife with family breakdown, of its individualism.

On the same day, former Representative Dan Burton, in his congratulatory address, said, "All of the serious issues facing America today can be solved by following the words that Rev. Sun Myung Moon gave 40 years ago. Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon stressed the importance of the anti-Communist movement to President Reagan and Communism fell. I thank Dr. Moon for continuing activities for peace." He emphasized, "One of the reasons why I supported Rev. Sun Myung Moon is that he stressed the value of the family. America does not think the value of the family is important. Family problems are becoming one of the reasons for crime in society. It is important for parents to teach to their children the value of the family, as well as ethics."

Patsy Casino, a middle school teacher and an event attendee said, "My father, who served in the Korean War, always said that racism should be abolished. When I met Rev. Sun Myung Moon, I was touched by his words that humanity was one with no racial discrimination." Frank Maketa, who also participated in the Yankee Stadium Rally forty years ago explained, "Through FFWPU, I discovered a life of living for others, rather than egoism. This event is different from a mega church in that there is music and song."

The FFWPU began their movement in America in the 1970's based on the thought that, "America must play the role of a tow truck that leads in the building of an ideal, peaceful world where the seven billion people of the world live in harmony and unification." It was perceived that world peace would be difficult to achieve through the United Nations (UN) alone, and so global organizations were established, as well. In order to advocate a movement of breaking down national barriers, the Federation for World Peace was established in 1991, followed by the World Peace Federation of Island Nations and the World Peace Federation of Continental Nations in 1996, as well as the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace in 1999. In the 2000’s, a Peace Park at the DMZ between North and South Korea was proposed at the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace Conference. FFWPU revealed that, "Under the guidance of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, the FFWPU has compiled a book of scriptures by Rev. Moon, established the Sunhak Peace Prize and set the direction and goal of “VISION 2020” to determine the path until 2020....[See the original story]
