The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) announced August 11 that they would be holding a series of events to commemorate the 4^th anniversary of the death of their founder, Rev. Sun Myung Moon. The main 4^th anniversary commemoration event will be held at the Cheongshim Peace World Center at 9 a.m. on the August 19, with a total 30,000 expected to attend, including former and current foreign heads of state and other key figures from Korea and overseas. Regarding this year’s events, FFWPU announced, “Previous anniversary events, including the 3^rd anniversary held last year, focused on marking the mourning period; whereas, starting from this year, the event will be hosted as a festival celebrating peace and love that surpasses death.”

Key events included a “DMZ Peace Road: Sharing Hope for the Unification of Korean Peninsula” march and rally by students and youth from 40 countries around the world, an international college students’ Symposium on the Unification of the Korean Peninsula and the Enhancement of World Peace, a Religious Peace Seminar, the “2016 Religious Peace Wongu Peace Cup Soccer Tournament” and a “2016 Multicultural Peace Festival.” Among those events, the DMZ Peace Road event is part of “2016 Peace Road,” which is a series of events taking place in 140 nations in order to perpetuate the work for peace and unification initiated by founders Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han Moon. In the DMZ Peace Road event, 1,200 college and high school student representatives from 63 nations will gather in Imjingak Pavilion in Paju, and walk along the DMZ civilian border, expressing hope for the unification of the two Koreas, as well as the development of a DMZ World Peace Park. On August 17, an International College Students’ Symposium will be held in the National Assembly Memorial Hall, to discuss the tasks needed to realize world peace and the reunification of Korea.
