[Segye Times] “To Take on the Role as a Bridge between Korean and America” Speech by Wife of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan at the Tongil Group Employee Wives Seminar Yumi Hogan, wife of the Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, participated at the Tongil Group Employee Wives Seminar in the United States.
At the event held at The Washington Times with Tongil Group PR Director Ho-Yeol An, former Universal Peace Federation International Chairperson Chang-Shik Yang, former Congressman Dan Burton and his wife, Washington Times CEO Larry Beasley, Washington Times Holding Company Chairman of Board Michael Jenkins and 41 Tongil Group employees’ wives participating, Mrs. Hogan promised to become a bridge between Korea and America. As the first gubernatorial First Lady of Korean Descent, Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan (middle) participated in the Tongil Group Employee Wives Seminar held at The Washington Times, and is taking a commemorative photo with the participants, following her speech.
Mrs. Hogan explained in detail the process of how Governor Hogan had been diagnosed with a sort of cancer called Hodgkins Lymphoma in June of last year, and how after six months of struggling and treatments, he has now been finally declared cancer-free. She said, “Even while going through exhausting chemotherapy treatments, my husband never ceased to continue his work as a governor, and for approved documents worked with IVs being injected.” She further added, “If I look back at the past year, it feels like I am watching a movie,” and emphasized, “We strongly withstood the trials and troubles, and now wish to become an example to cancer patients so that they can never give up and can fight until the end.”
Mrs. Hogan said that she was spreading the culture
of Korea to the American society, and that she fully supports economical
interchange in Maryland, and received an enthusiastic round of applause. Hogan
went on to say, “After the inauguration of my husband, Korea was the first
country to be visited overseas, and within the congressional residence of
Maryland lies a Kimchi refrigerator,” and added, “My husband now enjoys Korean
food.” Later she added, “My husband designated the 5th of April as
Taekwondo Day, and even performed a demonstration of smashing a board at a
