Tongi Foundation Chairman's New Year Message

Valued employees of our Tongil Group companies! Good morning! Happy New Year! I pray that all of you and your families, as well as all the work that you are responsible for may have the blessing and protection of Our Heavenly Parent and True Parents through the upcoming year, and that you will all have a healthy and successful year.

2014, the year of the horse, is a new year of hope. This year is the year of the blue horse, which represents an even more auspicious and dynamic year, so I feel sure that this will be a very successful and productive year for everybody in our Tongil Group family.

However, if we look at the history of Korea, we can see that the year of the blue horse has been a time of challenge and change. At the current time also, here on the Korean peninsula, we can see that in many areas, including politics, economics and international relations, our country is facing challenges, and is in a situation of crises that will require wise choices and cooperation to solve.

During 2013, our Tongil Group also was affected by international and domestic factors that prevented us from achieving 100% of our financial goals for the year. On the one hand, we can take certain amount of satisfaction in the fact that we did increase our profit over the previous year, but we are still left with some regret.

Following the True Father's Seonghwa in 2012, True Mother took the lead in encouraging us to march forward without stopping, and in welcoming Foundation Day, after which she proclaimed Year One of Cheon Il Guk, and the Vision 2020 campaign which she is personally directing, giving us hope and courage.

Since the beginning of 2013, the Tongil Foundation started the VSP 2020 foundation to run in conjunction with the church's Vision 2020 campaign, turning our attention back to the founding motto of the foundation, "We will become the foundation which is like the body which can support the church which is like the mind," and in so doing, we could not help but feel some dissatisfaction in our accomplishments up until now, despite making our best efforts.

At the first Hoon Dok Hae of 2014 on January 1, True Mother announced the motto for the year, "Let us become true owners of Cheon Il Guk who practice true love in resemblance to our Creator, the Heavenly Parent!"  She also entreated everyone to plant this as the guiding principle in their lives until Vision 2020 is accomplished.

I think there are three key points in this motto that each one of us can engrave on our hearts to lead our lives in the right direction.

First of all, as sons and daughters of our Heavenly Parent, we have inherited our Heavenly Parent's divine nature, and we have been formed as people who are His holy sanctuary. This means we are spiritual beings. As spiritual beings, we must live with a confidence and pride in our value that goes beyond merely people of this physical world.

Secondly, are the fruits of the true love which has been inherited from Heavenly Parent. The true love we have inherited is not for ourselves, but something to be given to those around us. Practicing the teaching of True Parents which emphasizes living for the sake of others is the fundamental attitude we should keep in our lives.

Thirdly, the motto entreats us to become owners of Cheon Il Guk. Since True Parents proclaimed Foundation Day, we are a blessed group of people who have been living in the age of Cheon Il Guk. Living as citizens of Cheon Il Guk is our ideal and our reality. Cheon Il Guk's freedom and unity, peace and happiness are not only the ideal that we are pursuing, but also the reality that we are following and creating.

This motto that True Mother has given is not a decoration to hang on the wall, but describes the kind of person that we must become in order to bring victory in Vision 2020.

As we enter 2014, a year full of hope, as members of a unified community of heart, let us become one family who feels pride and responsibility. Let us take the spirit of the green horse with us as we work, and bring victory in 2014. Tongil family, let's work hard, let's be innovative, and let's leap forward.

I wish that the divine protection of our Heavenly Parent and the love of True Parents may be always with all of you and with your families.
