On February 26th (Thursday) at 10:30 am, 50 people including Tongil Group Chairman Jung-Soon Jo, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Vice President Hyun-Yung Lee, 2015 Salary Round-off Beneficiary and Tongil Group employees attended the Tongil Group Hope Dream Salary Round-Off Service Project Presentation Ceremony at the Multicultural General Welfare Center, situated in Yongsan, Seoul. The Tongil Group raised 41 million won through the Salary Round-Off Service Project.

The ceremony began with opening remarks by the Korea Multicultural Peace Federation Secretary General In-Chun Hwang, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, opening prayer and the Salary Round-Off development report.

Tongil Group’s PR Department General Manager In-Yong Ryu said, “The Tongil Group Hope Dream Salary Round-Off Service Project gathered 41 million won through obtaining 1,329 signatures from their employees pledging to donate the amount less than 10,000 won that is rounded off from their salaries in order make a contribution to society. Based on the principle of transparency, the Tongil Group employees and non-employees voted online and offline to determine the three places where the money would be donated to. 13 million won was donated to the Syrian Refugee Camp in Lebanon Elementary School Project, 15 million won was donated to the Multicultural Disabled Children Family Camp Project and 20 million won to the Multicultural Alternative Schooling Scholarship Project. The Salary Round-Off Project began in 2012. In 2013, 24 million won was raised, followed by 35 million in 2014 and then another 41 million by the end of the year, bringing the grand total to 10 billion won.”

Later on, Chairman Jung-Soon Jo and representative employees presented the 41 million won donation to the organizations at the Presentation Ceremony on behalf of all the Tongil Group employees.

After the Presentation Ceremony, the deputy beneficiary Ahmed Ajari, representing the Continental Director Jong-In Park, said that there were many people from Syria taking refuge in Lebanon due to the situation in Syria, but many of the young children were not able to receive basic education. He expressed, on behalf of the President, that he is happy and grateful that the donations received will be used to fund the elementary education of the children.

The Multicultural General Welfare Center Chairman Man-Ung Jo introduced the Multicultural Disabled Children Family Camp Project and emphasized that they will use the donations received to nurture and develop disabled children.

The President Gil-Yun Lee of the True Love and Peace School, which is a Multicultural Alternative School, established this school to help multicultural youth that had dropped out of school. The President expressed gratitude saying that the funds received will be used to provide scholarships to low-income students and create leaders needed by Korean society.

Chairman Jung-Soon Jo encouraged the beneficiaries in his remarks, “The ‘Salary Round-Off’ service project is not a temporary project to gather funds. Every month, Tongil Group-affiliated company employees gather and try to devise new ways in which the Tongil Group can increase its charitable donation funds. When we volunteer, we gain a peace of mind and feel its value and worth. I am grateful to all the Tongil Group-affiliated company employees who have participated in this ‘Salary Round-Off’ service project. I respect all of you. I hope the culture of sharing can spread throughout our society.”

Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Vice President Hyun-Yung Lee congratulated them saying, “The funds raised through the ‘Salary Round-Off’ service project may be small but gathered with utmost sincerity. I believe this will move people and miracles will happen. I hope this project will become the seeds of warmth and inspiration and the start of even greater things. I am very proud of the Tongil Group for organizing such an altruistic movement.”

Lastly, the Tongil Group Hope Dream Salary Round-Off Service Project Presentation Ceremony concluded with congratulatory performance by a second generation from a Korea-Thailand multicultural family, Bo-Hyeon Kim on the Khim, which is a traditional instrument in Thailand. She performed the Korean song “Arirang” and two representative Thai songs including “Sengduon,” said to have been written and composed by the King himself while watching the moonlight.
