The elementary school for the Syrian refugee children residing in Lebanon was selected as the supporting project of the 2015 Tongil Group Hope Dream Salary Round-Off Service Project. Starting in March, 2015, two tents, which were to be used as school buildings in Lebanon, were built. It was divided into a preschool and an elementary school, and teachers were hired and the curriculum was organized. On May 11th, education activities officially began with the opening ceremony.
This temporary school, made from tents and not actual school buildings, is narrow with poor structural facilities; but the children are focusing on their classes and studying hard. Classes start at 8 AM. With the active cooperation of the camp’s manager, it has been said that there are almost no absentees, and the students are all studying hard.
It has been very hot in Lebanon with temperatures over 40 degrees. Two fans were installed so that the heat in the tent would not inhibit studying. We are working to create an environment that is conducive for students to focus on their studies.
On Saturday, June 11 (local time), despite the hot weather, 20 university students came to give a comfort concert and prepare a barbeque party for the hardworking students. The message they hoped to convey through this was that despite the difficult circumstance and environment, these students should not lose hope for their dreams, but rather strive to study hard. There was lots of laughter and everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves. |
