Japanese government urged to act on abduction and confinement of UC members Published March 23, 2010, 15:24 (Seoul, Yonhap News) Editor Yeon Jeong Kim The Committee for Countermeasures on Human Rights Victims in Relation to the Abduction and Confinement of Japanese Unification Church Members held a press conference in front of the Japanese Embassy, located in Chong-ro Gu, Seoul, on the afternoon on March 23. They urged the Japanese government to "take measures to prevent the abduction and confinement happening to Unification Church members stemming from religious discrimination and prejudice.” The committee claimed that “in Japan, where religious freedom is protected by the Constitution, Unification Church members are being abducted and confined for no reason other than that we have a different faith." They added, “Since 1966, when the first abduction occurred, more than 4,300 have been the victims of kidnapping and confinement.” They also explained, “Japanese women who are married to Korean men feel unable to visit Japan out of fear of being abducted and confined,” and concluded, “When abduction and confinement occurs, the police must not ignore this as a simple issue between family members or religions, but immediately intervene and secure the person’s safety.” yjkim84@yna.co.kr [이 게시물은 관리자님에 의해 2010-10-14 00:13:28 뉴스자료에서 이동 됨] |
