[Yonhap News] “Let’s open the road to unification” … 2018 Unification Rally held in Seoul More than 800 people, including Peace Road cyclists, gathered and marched
to Gwanghwamun. Unification Rally with global citizens from 130 nations
On the morning of August 23, the event for “One Korea Peace Road 2018” Unification Rally was held in downtown Seoul.
More than 800 people (according to local police), including around 100 Peace Road cyclists, took part in this event.
Starting from Seoul Station Plaza, they marched through Sungnyemunno, Taepyeongno and Sejongno to Gwanghwamun. On August 23, participants of the “Unification Rally in Seoul with global citizens from 130 nations: One Korea! Peace Road 2018” held at the Seoul Station Plaza are warming up before the kick-off of the bicycle marathon.
On the bicycles of the Peace Road riders were flags of the nations taking part in the Peace Road event including Mexico, Tanzania, Turkey, India, etc.
This Unification Rallies, which started on August 9 in Chungnam, have been held in Busan, Gwanju, Ulsan, Daejeon, and Jaeju, and will conclude in Paju on August 24.
The Peace Road Project started off in 2013 as a peace bicycle rally of 3,800-km between Korea and Japan; and has now been carried out in more than 120 nations where citizens participated by bicycle, car or on foot.
Last April, 3,000 youths from 40 nations gathered at Imjingak Pavilion in Paju to take part in the DMZ (demilitarized zone) Peace Road for a Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula and prayed for a successful 4.27 Inter-Korean Summit..... [See the original story] |
