The Tongil Group 2015 Management Performance Report Conference was held between January 8th and 9th, while the new year of 2015 was still fresh and new. About 100 Tongil Group executives attended the meeting in the Emerald Hall of the Ocean Hotel, which faces the beautiful coastline of Yeosu.
The opening ceremony began with reverent greetings to founders Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, followed by an opening prayer by President Chang-Ju Jeong and the viewing of a video of Rev. Moon’s New Year address from 2010.
In his new year’s address, Chairman Jeong-Soon Jo outlined a new course for Tongil Group. “In April of 2014, the Sewol ferry sank, bringing along with it the crisis of the sinking Korean economy, as the citizens of our nation mourned for the tragic event. Tongil Group was not immune to the effects of the economic depression. However, despite the financial crisis, Shin Jeong Development Co. reported its first surplus since being included as one of Tongil Group’s subsidiary companies in 2011. Ilshin Stone was very successful as well: the company was able to complete the first stages of leveling off the stone mountain that they acquired in 2013 and successfully built a high rise complex on Pocheon Stone Mountain. Yong Pyong Resort is making successful progress on the construction of a luxury condominium complex called Birch Hill Terrace Residences, and TIC Vehicle Company has been strengthening their relationships with their biggest clients: Hyundai, Dymos and Ssangyong Corporation. They have also been taking steps toward a new breakthrough in the car parts industry. Tongil Group was formed through the sweat, blood and tears of True Parents. Through the combined efforts of our sweat and hard work, let us bring about prosperity for Tongil Group. Please bring about growth and development this year through the principles of ‘originality’ and ‘responsible management.’”
Following his speech, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Korean President Kyeung-Seuk Ryu gave words of encouragement. He shared some of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s recent work in Las Vegas, including her visit to the American Clergy Leadership Conference and the establishment rally of the “Cranes Club.” He also explained about the road map for “Vision 2020,” the focus on the congregation and the strengthening of the structure of the church, as well as the course of the Korean Family Federation in 2015.

His speech was followed by an awards ceremony for the best outstanding subsidiary company of 2014. The grand prize went to Shin Jeong Development Co., and the first prize went to Ilshin Stone for the second year in a row.
Tongil Foundation Planning and Inspection Team Leader Don-Yong Choi then gave a report on the Group’s business plan. He outlined the Group’s management status of 2014 and pointed out the possibilities for crisis in the manufacturing and exporting industries of Korea, as well as the possibility of collapse in Korean economic growth. He emphasized the importance of strengthening core abilities and responding properly to the situation at hand.
In the report on Ilhwa, President Seong-Gyun Lee spoke about the interest in the McCol media campaign from last year, the HACCP certification attained for the Cho Jung factory, the opening of the Ilhwa ginseng museum, the opening of Kona Queens stores in COEX, Myeongdong and Jongro and the briquette, kimchi pot and bazaar service projects. He also spoke about this year’s motto for swift growth: “Quantum Leap.” The company plans to make an ambitious new start through this motto.
In the Segye Ilbo report, President Han-Gyu Jo spoke on the strengthening of articles by switching to digital posting, as well as how Segye Ilbo has been distinguishing itself as a righteous and strong newspaper through new media and social media. The company plans to leap into the new year with an active schedule that includes many cultural events, including a marathon, a music completion and various discussion forums.
In the Yong Pyong Resort/Ilsang Ocean Development report, President Chang-Ju Jeong revealed that both companies were able to reach 100% of their goals for 2014 despite the economic slump. In the new year, the companies plan to burn their bridges behind them as they prepare for the construction of the Birch Hill Condo, the Terrace Condo, the Beache Palace Condo and the Tower Condo.
In the Sunwon Construction Report, President Cheol-Eon Park reported on the strengthening of sales capacity, the improvement of innovation and capability and the plan to move forward towards strengthening risk management protocols through the management guidelines of “change and innovation.”
The 2nd day began with Hoondokhae at 6:00 AM. After a prayer report from President Bong-Che Jeong, the participants all watched the MBCNET documentary “Walking the Path towards Peace in America,” which was released in November.
Tongil Group PR Team Leader In-Yong Ryu then gave a report on the current situation of press reports. New light was shed on the lives of Rev. and Dr. Moon, and a focus was put on strengthening values. The 1st Anniversary of Foundation Day, 2nd Anniversary of the Seonghwa and various evangelist enterprises were covered by KBS, MBC, SBS and other channels, as well as many daily, weekly and monthly newspapers. In the report for Seilo, President Seong-Bin Yoo explained their focus on managing their general facilities and the management of their distribution business as well as their air oil business. In 2015, they hope to focus on cultivating the market, expanding their business and developing their core abilities. He revealed their plan to make it a year of new breakthroughs for Seilo through the expansion of new growth and power.

Through five subsidiary projects, the outstanding subject contest grand prize was awarded to TIC Deputy Department Head Yong-Cheol Park, with the first prize going to Ilhwa Team Director Il-Seon Baek and the participation award going to Foundation Team Director Kang-Ho Seo. Tongil Group Secretary-General Yeong-Tae Kim then gave a government-sponsored presentation titled “The 2015 Korean Economic Crisis and Opportunity.” “This is a time in which we need the wisdom to transform crisis into opportunity. In order to achieve ‘Vision 2020,’ we must first adapt to external changes and work hard from our internal core. Thus, we need to master Six Sigma. Secondly, we must develop our attitude and morale in the workplace and raise up the next generation of leaders. Economic strength is not something that is born on its own. The company that has studied the hardest will come to achieve economic strength.”
Finally, Chairman Jeong-Soon Jo gave a closing prayer and the 2015 Tongil Group Management Plan Report Meeting came to an end with three cheers of Eok Mansei.
